含羞草社区 Grant Process

The PI/PD (Principal Investigator/Project Director) completes a pre-proposal before starting the actual proposal to ensure the project can be supported by the University, and to prevent duplication of pursuing the same funding opportunity.

Timeline:

The online internal MWSU needs to be submitted 4-6 weeks prior to the actual proposal submission date. This form is very simple and requires some general information about the proposed project and a draft budget (formatted as per guidelines of the granting agency).

For small grants (eg. under $7000), student submitted proposals mentored by a 含羞草社区 faculty member, etc., the pre-proposal may not be necessary, and the proposers can move forward to Step 2 (grant proposal routing form). However, before making any determination on this, please discuss your plans with Dr. Roy (troy1@missouriwestern.edu) to see what would be the best option.

Before You Submit a Grant

The salary budgeted for project staff is a combination of the percent of their base salary plus the amount necessary to cover fringe benefits. The base salary is the individuals institutionally approved yearly salary. The portion of this base amount indicated on the grant budget represents their project contribution. It is recommended that you speak with Human Resources for a more specific calculation.

If employing a Student Employee, you must follow the 含羞草社区 current Hourly Student Employment Rate.

Missouri Western鈥檚 Federally Negotiated F & A rate = 41% of Salaries and Wages, only.

Any funds which the institution contributes as part of the grant are referred to as Matching Funds.聽 Any matching funds must be requested in advance on the pre-proposal form and approved in advance.聽 Explicitly identify the fund, organization, account, and program codes.

Any equipment maintenance, subscriptions, etc. should be discussed with appropriate personnel including Chari, Dean/Area Supervisor, and the Vice Provost

Please speak to the Accounting/Purchasing Office to discuss policies and procedures for expenditures

  • Ensuring that the proposed project adheres to all University, state, and federal protocols as they relate to human subjects, animal welfare, materials handling (biohazard/radioactive), and plans for personnel and student training regarding ethical conduct of research and all other required training for the sponsor and/or project.
  • Specific procedures applicable to the granting agencies including required reporting processes.
  • Confirming, with signed documents, commitments and understandings of third-party collaborators and stakeholders involved in the proposed project.
  • Providing to the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs the information and data required to complete standard submission forms.
  • If funded, ensuring that the program is conducted in a manner that adheres to all University, state, federal, and sponsor guidelines.
  • Notifying the Missouri Western Foundation of all possible funding proposals being considered.
