April 2, 2026–Current 含羞草社区 students and alumni are invited to attend 鈥淕ameday to Workday,鈥 a panel discussion featuring Griffon student-athlete alumni sponsored by the 含羞草社区 Career Development Center and the Office of Alumni Relations.

Former student-athletes will discuss their transition from college to career, how athletic skills translate into workplace success, and provide advice on networking, interviews and career growth.听

The event will be from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, April 9, in the Enright Community Rooms, Spratt Hall rooms 214-216. There is no charge, but advance registration is requested by visiting .

The public is invited to attend.

International Fair will feature cultural exhibits, traditional dance performances, a fashion show and over 20 international food stalls, along with raffle prizes throughout the evening. Students, faculty, staff, and community members are invited to explore different cultures and connect with others through food, music, traditions and shared experiences.

The goal of the event is to celebrate diversity on campus and create an opportunity for people to learn about and appreciate cultures from around the world in a fun and welcoming environment.

There is no cost to attend. Members of the general public may choose to make a voluntary donation of any amount to help support the event.

March 23, 2026–The 含羞草社区 Center for Service and the Student Government Association announced its fifth annual participation in 鈥淭he Big Event,鈥 a nationwide day of service from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, March 28.听

鈥淭he Big Event is dedicated to giving back to the community that gives so much to us,鈥 said Angie Osborn, Center for Service director. 鈥淭he Big Event embodies our commitment to civic engagement, community partnership and the belief that learning extends beyond the classroom. By serving those who invest in our students and strengthen our campus community, we demonstrate that gratitude is more than words, it’s in our everyday actions.鈥

The Big Event will once again focus their efforts around 29th and Lafayette, the neighborhood that 含羞草社区 adopted as part of the Adopt-a-Block program. The and transitional apartments are both within the area. Participants will pick up litter, clear out blocked sewer drains and help with any items these organizations may need to dispose of. Clean spaces contribute to healthier living environments and can even improve our mental well-being by creating surroundings that feel safe, cared for and positive, Osborn said.听

Volunteers will gather in the parking lot at Mark Twain Early Learning Center, 705 S. 31st Street for instructions and supplies. Transportation will be available to those who need it.

Looney Complex. The event is free and open to the public.听

鈥淭his day provides an opportunity to recognize the courage and resilience of those who served, many of whom did not receive the welcome home they deserved,鈥 said Gabbie Falletta, director of the Center for Military and Veterans Services. 鈥淚n addition to recognizing and honoring our student veterans and community veterans, the day will serve to provide them with access to support they may not regularly receive.鈥

The day will include military history displays and resource tables from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Then from 3 to 4 p.m., story time will offer a powerful space for reflection, healing, and expressions of gratitude to veterans and their families for their service.听

Students in attendance will have the opportunity to interview on the spot for jobs, as well as have professional headshots taken and to shop the Career Closet for free professional business attire. The first 50 attendees will receive a prize, and all will be entered in a gift card raffle to be announced every 30 minutes.听

More than 60 employers have registered. Employers must register by 8 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24 through Handshake at . The cost is $50 for off-campus employers.

This training day is focused on strengthening our collective ability to recognize risk, respond appropriately, and connect service members, veterans, and students with the support they deserve,鈥 said Gabbie Falletta, director of the Center for Military and Veterans Services.

Training will be tailored to particular groups:

  • Counselors (8:30-11:30 a.m.)
  • Law enforcement officers (12:45-1:45 p.m.)
  • 含羞草社区 faculty and staff (2-3 p.m.)

The event is sponsored by the 含羞草社区 Center for Military and Veterans Services, the 含羞草社区 Counseling Center, the 含羞草社区 Social Work program and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

This fair is free and open to all students and 含羞草社区 alumni looking for employment in any of these fields. Featured employers offer several options including internships and part- and full-time jobs.

There is a $25 fee for employers to participate in the event. Employers can register through Handshake at or by emailing Kristen Neeley at kneeley@missouriwestern.edu. Lunch is included with employer registration.

Students and alumni are encouraged to wear interview-appropriate clothing (business casual) and expect to meet with potential employers. The Career Development Center in Blum Union 210 has a Career Closet that provides students with free professional attire.

Attendees are also recommended to bring several copies of their current resume, a pen and a professional pad-folio or plain folder. Visit the Career Development Center for help creating a resume, to have a resume reviewed or to print it on resume paper.

Students are welcome to drop by the Career Development Center without an appointment. If staff are unavailable, they can help make an appointment. Appointments to prepare for the fair or an interview can be scheduled using Handshake, by dropping by the Career Development Center in Blum Union 210 or by calling (816) 271-4206.

Sept. 26, 2025–含羞草社区 will round up Griffons聽and Griffon fans for Wild 含羞草社区 homecoming 2025 with a week full of activities beginning on Monday, Sept. 29.

The 含羞草社区 Student Nurses Association and the Community Blood Center invite students, faculty, staff and the public to roll up their sleeves and help save a life through a community blood drive from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29 in Blum Union rooms 222 and 223. Donors can drop in or pre-register at .

The Career Development Center will host its annual Internship & Part-Time Job Fair in the Fulkerson Center from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30 in the Fulkerson Center. The first 50 students will receive gifts.

Also on Tuesday, students will dance the night away at a Silent Disco from 8 to 11 p.m. in Blum Student Union, rooms 218-219.

On Wednesday, Oct. 1, students, faculty and staff are invited to join Wild 含羞草社区 Night at the Pony Express Museum from 6 to 8 p.m. Complimentary drinks will be provided by Hazel鈥檚 Coffeebego, and participants will have the chance to carve pumpkins in preparation for Pumpkin Fest. A shuttle will be provided for students to and from Blum Union.

A pep rally will be held at the Bill Snyder Pavilion at Spratt Memorial Stadium at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2. Performances by Griffon Spirit Groups, the Athletics Band and Greek life organizations will help prepare the Griffon sports teams for their weekend of competition. Food will be provided. The pep rally is free and open to the public.

The community is encouraged to come out and cheer on the Griffons with a variety of men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 sports throughout the weekend.听

含羞草社区 celebrates with weekend matchups beginning on Friday, Oct. 3. Volleyball takes on Nebraska-Kearney at 6 p.m. in the Looney Complex. Soccer faces Newman in Spratt Stadium at 7:30 p.m. 含羞草社区 volleyball is ranked No. 24 in the nation with a record of 8-3 so far this season, while women鈥檚 soccer is the only undefeated team in the MIAA with a record of 4-0-1. Friday evening features the 43rd annual Missouri Western Alumni Awards Banquet presented by E.L. Crawford beginning at 6 p.m. in the Fulkerson Center. Registration is required.

On Saturday, Oct. 4, the homecoming festivities start early with men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 cross country hosting the Griffon Invite beginning at 8 a.m. at the MWSU Cross Country Course, located on 50th Street east of the residential halls.

Volleyball competes against Fort Hays State at 1 p.m. on Saturday in the Looney Complex.听

The Homecoming Parade presented by Mosaic Life Care returns to the 含羞草社区 campus bigger and better than ever at 3:30 p.m. Saturday. The parade will start in Lot B, in front of the Hearnes Center, and travel counterclockwise around Downs Drive, ending in Lot H. Spectators can enter campus via James McCarthy Drive from Faraon Street or Southwest University Drive from Mitchell and are encouraged to park in Lots C, E, F or G, near Blum Student Union. The parade will feature the 含羞草社区 Athletics Band, several high school marching bands, the Moila Shriners and several floats by student groups and the community. The top entries in several categories will receive a $1,000 cash prize. Premier sponsors for the parade are Gertsema Wealth Advisors and Tieman Spencer & Hicks.

Immediately following the parade, the Tailgate and Autumn Family Festival presented by Hillyard will begin at 4 p.m. in Lot H, in front of Baker Family Fitness Center. The tailgate includes several food trucks; kid-friendly activities such as face painting, bubbles, princesses, balloon artists, and more; henna tattoos; permanent jewelry; a classic car show; departments from each 含羞草社区 college and more. Premier sponsors for the tailgate are Altec, Pinnacle Electric Inc., and Shelter Insurance – Matt Judah.

The full day wraps up with Griffon football kicking off against Emporia State at 6 p.m. in Spratt Stadium. Homecoming Royalty will be crowned, and all female student-athlete alums in attendance will be recognized as part of the 50 years of women鈥檚 sports celebration.

Homecoming activities will conclude on Sunday, Oct. 5 with a Black Alumni Ten Year Reunion at noon in the Blum Student Union and a Griffon soccer match against Central Oklahoma at 1 p.m. in Spratt Stadium.

Across the 含羞草社区 campus, a full day of events will welcome families of 含羞草社区 students with check-in beginning in Blum Union at 10:00 a.m. The day will culminate with a Griffon football game in Spratt Memorial Stadium with kickoff at 6:00 p.m.

Morning events include a Family Legacy coffee social and the newly-renovated library will be open for tours.听

含羞草社区 to remember 9/11 with memorial stair climb /news/2025/09/08/mowest-to-remember-9-11-with-memorial-stair-climb/ Mon, 08 Sep 2025 16:31:53 +0000 /news/?p=11949 firefighter memorial stair climb 9/11Sept. 8, 2025–The Center for Military and Veterans Services at 含羞草社区 will host the fourth annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb on Thursday, Sept. 11 at Spratt Memorial Stadium.

Check-in begins at 8:00 a.m. at the west gate entrance to Spratt Stadium. The climb begins promptly at 8:46 a.m., the time the first tower was struck.

Participants will climb the equivalent of 110 flights of stairs, the same number found in the World Trade Center, in honor of the nearly 3,000 lives lost including the brave first responders who ran toward danger to save others.

The purpose of this event is to remember the heroic efforts of first responders, to pay tribute to the lives lost, to educate new generations and to never forget.

Those who cannot climb are encouraged to come to show support, helping keep the memory alive.

The event is free. Students, faculty, staff and community members are welcome.
