The jazz program of the 含羞草社区 Department of Music will present its Fall Jazz Concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18 in the Potter Hall Theater. The concert will feature performances by the Jazz Lab Band, Vocal Jazz, and Jazz Ensemble. Admission is free. The concert will showcase classic jazz literature as well as new contemporary literature by today鈥檚 leading writers.

The Vocal Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Kathleen Holeman, will entertain the audience with a mixture of tunes by diverse composers and differing styles. They will perform classic standards such as 鈥淟ullaby of Birdland鈥 by George Shearing, arranged by Kerry Washington, along with new originals, such as 鈥淥pen Invitation鈥 by Darmon Meader and Lauren Kimhan, both members of the ever popular New York Voices.

The Jazz Lab Band, under the direction of Steve Molloy, will perform classic big band charts such as 鈥淐orner Pocket鈥 by Freddie Green, originally performed by the Count Basie Orchestra, and contemporary arrangements such as Fred Sturm鈥檚 鈥淢ichelangelo.鈥

Ryan Lombard and Avery Doran will be featured soloists.

The Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Bob Long, will showcase a wide variety of literature, ranging from classics such as the Basie Band鈥檚 鈥淨ueen Bee鈥 to Fred Sturm鈥檚 original composition 鈥淪kyhawk.鈥 Featured soloists with the Jazz Ensemble are senior general studies major Avery Doran on tenor sax, and senior music technology major Ryan Lombard on guitar.
