Graduate assistantships provide a stipend plus a scholarship in exchange for on-campus employment in an area usually related to their program of study.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stipend amounts and the amount of the tuition scholarship vary based on the assistantship awarded. The frequency of paychecks and other details also differ depending on how your assistantship is funded.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Graduate assistants are generally not eligible for other scholarships from our graduate programs or Missouri Western Foundation. Graduate assistants are generally not allowed to have off-campus employment (except for part-time consulting directly related to their area of study). Graduate assistants are required to be full-time students unless they are in their final semester.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Specific requirements that differ from those above may be outlined in an award letter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Graduate assistants are sponsored by individual graduate programs and campus departments. Not all assistantships are the same. Some contain full tuition scholarships, and other only partial scholarships. The amounts of stipends are also different depending on the work conducted. There are no guarantees of another GA being awarded to a faculty member or program based on prior awards.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"nav fusion-mobile-tab-nav\"><ul class=\"nav-tabs nav-justified\"><li><a class=\"tab-link\" data-toggle=\"tab\" role=\"tab\" aria-controls=\"tab-dde39355345ba8bfce6\" aria-selected=\"false\" tabindex=\"-1\" id=\"mobile-fusion-tab-amount\" href=\"#tab-dde39355345ba8bfce6\"><h4 class=\"fusion-tab-heading\">Amount<\/h4><\/a><\/li><\/ul><\/div><div class=\"tab-pane fade fusion-clearfix\" role=\"tabpanel\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-labelledby=\"fusion-tab-amount\" id=\"tab-dde39355345ba8bfce6\">\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">GA positions funded by graduate studies will be for a maximum of $7,000 per year plus a maximum of nine hours per semester of tuition remission. Note that these are negotiated, and many students receive a smaller stipend or less tuition.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"nav fusion-mobile-tab-nav\"><ul class=\"nav-tabs nav-justified\"><li><a class=\"tab-link\" data-toggle=\"tab\" role=\"tab\" aria-controls=\"tab-64afe0a42b3ce0235e7\" aria-selected=\"false\" tabindex=\"-1\" id=\"mobile-fusion-tab-lengthofaward\" href=\"#tab-64afe0a42b3ce0235e7\"><h4 class=\"fusion-tab-heading\">Length of Award<\/h4><\/a><\/li><\/ul><\/div><div class=\"tab-pane fade fusion-clearfix\" role=\"tabpanel\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-labelledby=\"fusion-tab-lengthofaward\" id=\"tab-64afe0a42b3ce0235e7\">\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once awarded to an individual student, GA positions may be continued for four semesters if the student makes satisfactory progress, meets all requirements, the funding source continues, and the supervisor completes all necessary reports in a timely manner.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Graduate teaching assistants, because they are on each semester\u2019s workload report, need to be renewed each semester.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"nav fusion-mobile-tab-nav\"><ul class=\"nav-tabs nav-justified\"><li><a class=\"tab-link\" data-toggle=\"tab\" role=\"tab\" aria-controls=\"tab-e85007fd583ae0efe18\" aria-selected=\"false\" tabindex=\"-1\" id=\"mobile-fusion-tab-payschedule\" href=\"#tab-e85007fd583ae0efe18\"><h4 class=\"fusion-tab-heading\">Pay Schedule<\/h4><\/a><\/li><\/ul><\/div><div class=\"tab-pane fade fusion-clearfix\" role=\"tabpanel\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-labelledby=\"fusion-tab-payschedule\" id=\"tab-e85007fd583ae0efe18\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Graduate assistant pay schedules may vary, however, the majority are paid on the monthly student cycle (20th of each month in Sept., Oct., Nov., Dec., Feb., Mar., Apr., May). Graduate teaching assistants are paid on the last working day of the month similarly to adjunct instructors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--Supervisor Responsibilities (TAB) The supervisor is responsible for ensuring that the student has completed all necessary paperwork in HR, and ensuring that the MOA or adjunct faculty paperwork are completed correctly and in a timely manner. Supervisors must report on the progress of each GA to the Graduate Dean at the end of each semester.--><\/p>\n<p><!--Reporting Requirements (TAB) Supervisors must provide the Graduate Dean with a summary of work accomplished and an evaluation of the GA at the end of each semester \u2013 including specific accomplishments. GAs will not be eligible for continued employment or tuition assistance if this evaluation is not received at least 14 days before the start of the next semester. For continuing GAs, the supervisor must also confirm that the student is continuing in the program, and has met the GPA requirements.--><\/p>\n<p><!--Special Teaching Assistant Requirements(TAB) Missouri Western is committed to teaching courses using faculty members. We realize, however, that under some circumstances a graduate student can be an effective teacher and also enhance their graduate school experience through teaching. In order for a department chair to assign a course to a graduate student, the\u00a0TA position approval form\u00a0must be completed. Additional funds from the part-time\/overload budget will not be allocated for TA's, however, the part-time\/overload budget can be used where a TA will be replacing another adjunct faculty member.The amount of the tuition scholarship awarded to TA's will vary depending on the number of credits the TA is teaching.
